Local, practical technology help in Waterford

What happens during a technology house call?

Need computer or WiFi help at home in Waterford? Flo explains how a house call works, what to prepare, travel fees and when workshop work makes more sense.

Your laptop is getting slow. The printer won't connect. Or the WiFi works in the kitchen but disappears in the room where you actually need it.

You know something isn't working, but you might not know why. That's fine. You don't need to diagnose the problem before contacting me.

I offer technology house calls across the Copper Coast and rural Waterford. I come to your home, look at the setup and help work out what needs doing. Here's how it works.

First, tell me what's going wrong

A short description is enough to start with. Tell me which device is involved, what happens when you try to use it, and whether anything has changed recently.

For example, “the printer stopped working after I changed the router” is useful information. You don't need to find the technical name for the fault.

Send your Eircode too. It lets me confirm the travel fee and whether a house call makes sense for the job. Sometimes a device needs workshop time instead, and we can discuss collection and return before booking.

What does a house call cost?

The call-out fee covers travel and the initial assessment. It's based on the driving distance from my base to your address and back:

  • Up to 20 km: €25
  • Over 20 km, up to 40 km: €35
  • Over 40 km, up to 60 km: €45
  • Over 60 km, up to 100 km: €65
  • Over 100 km: quoted individually

These fees include VAT. Labour and parts are separate, and I'll agree the cost with you before starting the work.

For example, PC tune-up, cleanup and malware removal is €80 including VAT for two hours, plus the applicable travel fee. You can find the other standard service prices on the House Calls page.

If I can't sort the problem, you only pay the agreed call-out fee. There is no diagnosis fee on top.

Do you need to prepare anything?

Usually, leave the equipment where it is and connected as normal. Seeing the whole setup can help, especially with WiFi, printers and the cables connecting everything together.

A few things are useful:

  • Have the charger or power cable available.
  • Keep any error message handy. A photo is fine if it only appears sometimes.
  • Make a short list if there are several things you'd like me to look at.
  • Be available to sign in to your accounts yourself if needed. Please don't send passwords in an email or message.

If something needs different preparation, I'll let you know when we arrange the visit.

During the visit

I'll start by asking you to show me the problem. Then I'll check the equipment and explain what I find in plain language.

The aim is to agree a sensible next step. That might be changing a setting, cleaning up a slow computer, setting up a printer or discussing a repair. If parts or extra work are needed, I'll explain the cost before going ahead.

You don't need to be confident with technology. Ask questions as we go. It helps if you understand what's been done and how to use the equipment afterwards.

What if the work takes longer?

House calls last up to two hours. Some jobs need longer tests or more time than is practical during a home visit.

If that's the case, I'll explain what's still needed and discuss workshop work or another next step. We'll agree any additional costs before continuing. If more time is needed, we'll agree a separate next step rather than extending the visit beyond two hours.

For workshop jobs, collection and return is quoted separately to cover both visits. If I take the device away at the end of a paid house call, I'll only quote the additional delivery journey. The agreed transport fee is payable when your device is returned.

Where and when are house calls available?

I cover the Copper Coast and rural Waterford, including Annestown, Bunmahon, Stradbally, Kilmacthomas and Tramore. If you're in Dungarvan, Waterford city or farther away, get in touch and I'll confirm the travel fee before booking.

House calls are available Monday to Friday, between 9am and 2pm. Saturday mornings may sometimes be possible by request, subject to availability.
